Camp d'Ete 2011
Aschaffenburg, Germany
We began our trek by staying at Missionary Keith Gandy’s church in Aschaffenburg, Germany. We were able to visit a concentration camp. That was definitely a memorable experience. We saw the cell of a pastor who refused to deny God and salute Hitler. He also shared Jesus with many of the Jews in the camp. Are we sharing our faith like that?
What a blessing to see the great work of The Baptisten Gemeinde (the Gandy's church). After music in German & English, a message in English (it was translated in German) by special guest the Ledbetters and lunch we headed off to our summer camp adventure in Belgium.
WEEK 1: Children's Camp
We had an awesome time serving the Lord at Les Camps d’ete at Le Château de Thieusies in Belgium. Mike and Christy were camp cooks for three weeks. The camps were French and English.
The first week was children's camp mainly French speakers from France and Belgium. We had the great opportunity to spend time with veteran missionaries the Taylors (Belgium), the Moellers (Belgium), the Williams (France), the Downs (Ivory Coast), the Flowers (France), Bro. Gib Woods (Germany), & Bro. Jack Hardy (Wales). It was great to see some of the fruits of their labors– men and women who return (from other continents) each summer to help with the camp because camp was a blessing in their youth.
The first week Karlee, Hunter, & Kelsey participated in both French and English. We were able to spend time with many French speakers. Passport to the Promise Land the children "travel to different" locations in the Old Testament. There were several saved. It was a great week!
London
Mike celebrated his 20/16 birthday on August 6th. We took a ferry over to Dover and drove to London for the weekend. Missionaries Brian and Mindy Clark graciously allowed us to stay in their home in Bromley. We had a great time making memories and seeing our great nations roots.
WEEK 2: Senior Camp
The second camp was a 10 day senior camp for middle and high school. Late nights, fun games, & great messages. There were English services and French services each day. Bro. Jack Hardy was the special guest for the English services. Kylee and Kelsey roomed with and did devotions with the French girls and went to services in English. It was great for both of them. There were 4 saved at senior camp. INCLUDING Kelsey and Kylee Napper. Praise the Lord!!
Grace International Baptist Church
While in Belgium Mike was able to speak at Missionary Tim Down’s church GIBC in Bruges. Their congregation was great. Sweet fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ. Tim and Barbara gave us a tour of this beautiful city that is called “the Venise of the North”. It was a great day filled with fellowship, food, and Belgian chocolat (chocolate)!
Rheinland Baptist Church
On our trek home we visited Rheinland Baptist Church in Landstuhl, Germany where The Woods have been missionaries for over 20 years to the military. Mike was able to teach his Sunday school class and present our ministry Sunday night. We enjoyed this sweet church and their zeal for the Lord.
We stand amazed at all God allows us to experience in his service!
